American Multiculturalism
Course Outline and Class Expectations
Mr. Masters

This course has been designed to accomplish two specific goals. The first is to heighten your awareness of the society in which you live, and encourage you to be more
sensitive to the differences around you. The second is to introduce to you some of the multicultural influences on America through literature, art, music, guest speakers and food. Ultimately, this course should challenge you to question critically, seek answers and draw conclusions about why American culture is the way it is.

I expect that you will come to class prepared to contribute positively. To that end, you will need your text(s), notebook, agenda, something to write with, and any homework that is due. You will need to have a 3.5” floppy disk of your own.

Occasionally we will view films to aid in your understanding of relationships. prejudice or other manifestations of culture as they occur in America.

You will be expected to complete a multimedia presentation that demonstrates your interpretation of American Multiculturalism as your final project. It will cover either all six target culture groups focusing on similar culture traits or typical American culture traits as influenced by the six target cultures.

If you are absent from school, you have three days from the last day you were absent to turn in work.

I am available nearly every day after school for extra help.
